Glam Polish: An Epic Journey

After putting off buying more polish for a few months, I caved in the Black Friday sales and put in another order with Harlow&Co. I picked up two more polishes from the Epic Journey collection (by Glam Polish) and also two more bottle of Rica Glossy Glam top coat. It's a shame the none of the indie stores in the UK sells this top coat because it's my favourite and I have to keep waiting until I put in an order at H&C.

Fangorn Forrest - This is a gorgeous deep green with lots of flaky shimmer. It's incredibly shiny and the formula is perfect. It's not too thick or thin and this picture shows two coats.

Helms Deep - A deep purple with blue flakies. I wasn't sure if I would like this, but as soon as I put it on I loved it! It's very shimmery and shiny (may be dangerous when driving) and oh so pretty. This is two coats.

Christmas Snowflakes

I couldn't decide what to do for my Christmas nails so I went with classic red and silver and didn't think that it was worth blogging about them. But, I used my new goodies on boxing day to create a rather pretty snowflake look. This was inspired by a look that Sammy at The Nailasaurus did earlier this week. I don't have her brush skills though due to shaky hands =(.

Colours used:
Grey base: OPI - Skull and Glossbones
Purple - ColorClub - Eternal Flame
Dark Grey: China Glaze - Out Like A Light.

I started by painting my middle two fingers and thumb with Skull and Glossbones and my remaining fingers with Eternal Flame (my new favourite holo courtesy of my lovely boyfriend). Once these were dry, I used a striping brush with Eternal Flame and Out Like a Light to create my snowflakes.

Here is the finished look! You'll have to excuse the oval on each nail, I got a ring LED light for Christmas and I'm still trying to figure out the best setting.

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think of these!

New Brand : BellaLuna Cosmetics

Everyone knows that I love trying new nail polish brands, especially when they're Indie Stores. I find that at the minute, Indie can offer me far better colours than mainstream brands.

I decided to try BellaLuna and I think this store is definitely a winner! The formula on all of these is fantastic and the store owner is lovely and has great customer service which I find the be very important. I pickeed five colours and think that I'll be going back for all the others because these are so fantastic.

Sugar Plum Fairy - This is quite possibly the most beautiful purple polish that I have ever seen. It's a lovely deep purple with lots of micro glitter particles that shine all different colours in the light! the formula is fantastic on this one. It's a jelly base so you have amazing depth to the colour, but it also has great opacity! This phot has been taken with two coats of colour and one coat of Rica Glossy Glam top coat.

Starry Night - A gorgeous dark blue with lots and lots of micro glitter again. The formula on this is the same as on Sugar Plum fairy and I love it! I could not stop staring at my nails while I was photographing these. My index and ring fingers have a coat of Glossy Glam top coat and I have left my middle and little fingers without top coat so that you can see the difference. This dries a little grainy, possible due to all the glitter, but top coat completely fixes it.

Santa Baby - My camera had a little trouble focusing on this one! This one is a beautiful deep red jelly polish that also has small glitter pieces. The colour on this is stunning! I wore this to work earlier in the week and had lots and lots of people asking where I had got this from. The wear on this was also fantastic. I had it on for two days at work (where I type heavily), I tidied, cleaned, decorated the Christmas tree and had a bath..... and I only had one chip at the end of it all. That is a miracle for me as I usually can't go one day without some form of chip so I was very impressed.

This photo has three coats of Santa Baby and one coat of Glossy Glam.

Belle of the Ball - This is what I could call a Christmas tree green with bronze glitter pieces in it. Again, my camera got freaked out by the glitter. The colour on this one is very festive and Belle of the Ball is my boyfriends favourite out of all the ones I bought. This is two coats with one coat of Glossy Glam.

Snowdrift - A flaky topper that is perfect over any colour. Again, due to having to take these photos when it's dark outside (stupid UK winter), my camera couldn't quite pick up the sparkle.

I put Snowdrift over half my nail and the other half is the base colour. I did this so that you can see the difference it makes. This colour is so sparkly and pretty, when put over white it looks like sparkling snow.

BellaLuna Cosmetics is fantastic in my opinion. Any shop that sells polish that has great formula and has amazing customer service skills will surely be winner for anyone so go buy some! She even ships to the UK and her rates are very reasonable! I ordered my polishes on 28th November, they shipped on 2nd December and they were delivered to me in the UK on 9th December.

Once my new lenses for my camera arrive, I will take some macro shots of these beauties and put them up on my Instagram page.

Kelly Brook Polish Review

I've noticed in New Look that they now have their own nail polish range by Kelly Brook. I was initially put off because I've not had good experiences with polish bought in a clothing shop before. But these colours were so beautiful and shiny that I just couldn't resist.

I believe that individual bottles are £2.99 but this duo was only £3.99! I can't really argue with getting two beautiful polishes for £2 each!

Unfortunately these don't have names so I can't tell you the shades. But the box they came in and the bottles are really pretty!

The first bottle is this gorgeous blue shade that has tiny little pieces of blue and purple in it. The formula was far better than I expected and this photo is two coats. It doesn't seem to stain my cuticle area which was surprising for such a dark shade.

The second bottle is pink and purple glitter in a clear base. There is so much glitter in the bottle! This is just one coat over the blue shade and I don't think you'd have any trouble wearing this one its own.

The only downside to these for me, is that they smell pretty strong so I have to have the window open when I use them. But if all the others are as good as these two, I might just have to buy more!

Nina Ultra Pro Samba Sparkle

I went into Sally's UK with my sister a few weeks ago and managed to pick up a few bargains. I'll split my haul over two posts so that it isn't too picture heavy.

First is the Limited Edition Samba Sparkle set. I'm not quite sure which colour is which as the bottles aren't actually labelled and the box doesn't say which is which. I also can't find any swatches on google for these which is really annoying.

These are all textured polishes and they're all really, really pretty! All of these photos were taken with no top coat.

The first colour is this beautiful, bright orange/red shade. There's lots of sparkle in this although this one is a little sheerer than the others. This is three coats.

Next up is this shiny pink shade. Again there is lots of glitter but I don't think this is a colour that suites me so I probably won't be wearing it much. Coverage was fantastic and if you're careful, this could be a one coater.

Last is my favourite of the three. It's a gorgeous deep blue/purple shade again with plenty of glitter. Again, this is pretty much a one coater and it looks fantastic when you add top coat!

The colour names listed on the box are The Rio Deal, Masque-Parade and I Wanna Samba That. It's a real shame that they haven't put labels on the bottles as it means that I can't list them when I use them in my nail art. But they're still pretty so they'll still get used =)

I Love Nail Polish Fall Collection 2014 Preorder!

A few weeks ago, I spotted that I Love Nail Polish opened up a pre-order for their new fall collection and I had to buy a couple of them! I limited myself to two, though I'm kicking myself for not buying Black Orchid too.

The two shades I picked are Fall Semester and Iconic. They're both so incredibly pretty and perfect for the fall (or autumn if you're English like me) season.

Here is my usual bottle shot because I love the cute little boxes that they come in!

Fall Semester - This is a beautiful deep green/teal colour with lots of holographic glitter! The formula was really good and I used three thin coats for these photos.

Iconic - A stunning gold, holographic polish. Again, the formula was fantastic and I used three thin coats. I only have one photo of this one because it freaked my camera quite a bit and it struggled to focus (it's really that sparkly). I'll put better pictures up on my instagram next time I wear this polish.

I'm really pleased with my two picks. I was a little worried after I ordered Iconic because the swatches I'd seen look paler than it is in real life! Both have a wonderful holographic effect and they actually go really well together.

If you'd like to see the amazing sparkle, there's a video over on my instagram page here!

You can find I Love Nail Polish through the links below!

Autumn-y paint splatter

It's official... Autumn is coming and I'm not happy about it! I've had a long sleeved top on today and it won't stop raining. So I decided to do something Autumn-y on my nails.

Colours used:

OPI - My vampire is buff
Sally Hansen Insta Dri - Wined up
Barry M - Plum
Barry M - Raspberry
Nina - Jamaican Me Wanna

I decided on using Sally Hansen Insta Dri - Wined up on most of my nails. It's the most beautiful deep red that I own, plus it's slightly metallic which makes it even better.

I used two coats of My Vampire is Buff on my ring fingers and thumbs and then used a thin coat of Glisten & Glo - HK Girl to make sure it was dry.

I then painted my other nails with Wined up and used HK Girl on these two.

Once I was sure that all my nails were dry, I did splatter nail art on my cream nails using the remaining three colours. This is a really simple technique and quite fun too! Simply dip a straw in your bottle of polish so that just the tip is covered. Then just blow quite sharply through the straw and it creates this splatter effect.

When I was happy with the splatter, I top coated again, then used striping vinyls and black polish to create my accent nails.

This is the finished design! I really like this and I'd forgotten how much I like doing splatter nail art. Plus the red is just beautiful, though I'm still not happy that it's getting colder.

My week in water marble

I've been practising my water marble skills this week and I think that my practice is finally paying off! I've done three this week and I was really proud of all of them!

First up is this funky number using Collection - Sonic Blue and Nails Inc - Sloan Street. this was amazing and bright though it made my eyes go a little funny.

Next is this psychedelic little number! I used Collection - Sonic Blue, Nails Inc - St James Park and Nails Inc - Malibu Mojito. Again I loved this one and couldn't stop staring at my nails. I was actually sad when this one chipped when I was doing the washing up.

And finally we have this little minty number. I used Models Own Blue Glint and Turquoise Gloss from the Hyper Gel range. These worked really well for the water marble and while this isn't as bright as my other attempts, I love how this looks. It reminds me a little bit of toothpaste!

My Nail Care Routine

Now that my nails are in better shape (a remover actually stained my dark dark orange) I thought that I would share my nail care with all of you.

It's taken me almost a year to find all of the products that I'm going to tell you about, but I love them all.

First up is my hand care.

After I've removed my nail polish (when I'm leaving my nails bare otherwise I do this after my nails are fully dry) I use either my Finger Lickin Lacquer or Model City cuticle oil. These two are by far the best cuticle oils that I've used. They smell delicious and soak in really quickly, which is again really handy for when I'm at work. Nina from Model City actually mixes up cuticle oil especially for me as I'm allergic to the Almond Oil that is in her usual mix.

Once I've rubbed all the cuticle oil in, I use my Indigo Bananas cuticle balm. This is heavier than an oil but isn't as heavy as a hand cream. Again this smells amazing and soaks in quite quickly.

After the cuticle balm, I finish off with hand cream. The best hand cream that I've found is Hand Food by Soap and Glory. This smells amazing and leaves my hands really soft. It also soaks in really quickly and isn't greasy at all so it's perfect for me to use while I'm at work. I think that I might try the OPI Avojuice once I've used all of my supply of Hand Food.

I also use a glass nail file for my nails as it is gentler than a normal file. Mine is from Model City Polish.

For base coats, I usually use Orly Bonder. I love this so much! It dries really quickly, it's strengthened my nails and my manis last quite a few days before chipping. As you can see, my bottle is getting a little low and it's now really hard to apply so I've been using my OPI Nail Envy. While this one strengthens my nails, it isn't quite as good for keeping my nails chip free.

Finally, this is what my nails now look like. They're not quite as white as I would like them yet, but I've managed to rid myself of most of the staining. I used to bite my nails when I was younger and never thought that I'd have nails to be proud of. At this point last year, my nails were a nasty yellow colour (from lack of base coat) and they peeled and snapped constantly so I never had any length. I started doing nail art and reading up about nail care and look at them now! A good base coat and a good routine has made my nails the strongest they've ever been!

I hope this helps any of you who were wondering about the products that I use. Here is a list of where to buy each item.

NYC quick review

I know that I do lots of reviews on here of Indie polishes so I thought that today I would show a few of my new colours from my current favourite mainstream brand.

These colours are by NYC and one if from the Foil Explosion range and the other two are from the In A New York Colour Range. All three of these can be purchase from Superdrug if you are in the UK for £1.79 each!

I must admit that I used to walk straight past this display thinking that because they were so cheap that they'd be rubbish quality. I was wrong, they're actually really good and have quickly become my favourite! I can't go into Superdrug without walking out with at least one of them. The foils and metallics are particular favourites and you'll see them popping up quite a lot!

On to the colours!

Aqua Mystic - This is a beautiful mid blue foil polish and this is just one coat! Yes you read that right! All of the foils I have tried so far only need one coat to be completely opaque! My only slight gripe is that you can sometimes see the brush strokes but I really don't mind and top coat usually evens it out.

Times Square - I was drawn to this because it's so bright and pretty! It's a lovely red/coral shade and suites my skin tone quite well! This photo shows two coats but I think that if you're careful then this could be a one coater!

Peach Popsicles - I bought this when I was in search of my perfect coral shade and it's incredibly pretty on! This is two coats, the first coat was a little streaky but the second coat evened everything out. I've worn this a couple of times since I bought it and it's a little more neon than shown here but so beautiful!

I'm going to be expanding my collection of these so you'll see more swatches soon!

Small haul from Harlow & Co

When you live in the UK, getting hold of Indie polishes can be hard! You either pay slightly higher prices to have them delivered quicker from a source here, or have to pay ridiculous shipping charges to get them direct from the maker! Unless I want something straight away, I will usually either buy direct from the maker or from Harlow. They are an Indie stockist based in Canada and I've never had any problems with them. My orders are always shipped within 1-2 days and they manage to make it to my house in about a week. This is fantastic for international shipping! My US packages take a lot longer than a week.

Purple is my crack - As soon I saw this polish, I knew I had to get it. Anyone who knows me, or comes her regularly knows that I love purple and glitter. Combine the two and I have to have it! This is a mid purple with lots of multicoloured glitter and it's beautiful. It's incredibly sparkly and the formula is fantastic. This was my first polish from the Llarowe line and I will definitely be getting more!

Do you wanna Fanta? - This was also my first polish from Polished by KPT. It's a thermal that goes from a beautiful rosey pink when warm to bright orange when cold. This is three coats as it was a little sheer but it is so pretty! There is a slight micro-shimmer to this polish and the changes are really quick. You can see on the pink photos that my tips are orange and it gives a gradient effect.

Both of these are really pretty and my experience from Harlow has been fantastic! I will be buying more of both of these brands.

Splatter Nail Art

Those of you who follow Young Wild and Polished on Youtube will have seen her  Free Hand Splatter Tutorial tutorial. I watched it last week and knew that I had to try it! It was super easy and took about 10 minutes to do once my base colours were done.

Since I've linked the video above I'm just going to leave you with my colours used and my results =)

Colours used:
Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream
Barry M - Pink Flamingo
Barry M - Bright Purple
Barry M - Greenberry
Nails Inc - Black Taxi
Ciate - Snow Virgin

I really couldn't decide if I liked this or not when I did it. It just seemed unfinished to me and I can't think why... but I do really like it! It's interesting and keeps catching my eye.

More Finger Lickin' Lacquer!

Some of you may remember that I bought some Finger Lickin' Lacquer polishes a few months ago and now I have more! You can find them here! These polishes not only look amazing, but they smell amazing too! Plus she now has her own line of cuticle oils that will be shown in a later post.

Oh, Baby! - This is a deep grey holographic polish and it is amazing! This photo shows two coats and no topcoat but I think that if I'm careful, this could be a one coater! The sparkle is amazing and it also smells like leather.

Drop Dead Orchid - A gorgeous pale lilac/pink shade with holographic micro glitter. I don't think that this shade is scented, but I'm sure Jen would add a scent if you asked her to. This is so delicate and lovely. It's my kind of nudey shade! It's something that's quite neutral but also has a bit of sparkle to add a fun element! This had to be used straight away so I'm currently sporting this on my tootsies! The slight bump on my middle finger is something stuck on my nail, not a fault in the polish by the way. The formula on this is fantastic!

Fight The Fairies - A glitter topper that smells like whipped cream. This is a white shade with iridescent glitters that can either be a topper or three coats will build up to full opacity. The first picture shows Fight the Fairies over four different shades - pale pink, mid purple, cream and black. The second photo shows three coats on it's own. This would be fantastic at Christmas because it looks like snow!

My custom shade - Did I mention that Jen also makes custom polishes? Well she does! I'd asked Jen to make a custom for a friend and this was one that was rejected (it wasn't bright enough) so I asked if I could pinch it instead and I got it! It's a really pretty pink with what appears to be the same glitter that is used in Fight The Fairies!

I hope you like my swatches =). Head on over to Jen's shop and buy her stuff! She has a new collection of bleached neons being released on Friday!
